DARRIS AI

Privacy Policy

How the Darris AI student learning application collects, uses, and protects information.

This Privacy Policy explains how the Darris AI mobile application (the “App”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information.

Last updated: 21 July 2026

Darris AI is a learning application provided to students through their school or institution to study their curriculum, practise with quizzes and assessments, and receive AI‑generated feedback. Accounts are created and managed by the institution; there is no public self‑registration in the App. By using the App, the user acknowledges the practices described here.

Contents

1. Information we collect

a. Account & profile information

When a student signs in, we process their account details, including name, email address and/or phone number, assigned role, and their class/grade and board (syllabus). We also process learning‑related profile values such as XP, coins, and streaks. Sign‑in credentials are transmitted securely to authenticate the session, and an authentication token is stored in the device's secure storage.

b. Learning activity & assessment data

As you use the App, we process your learning activity so we can show your progress and grade your work, including:

c. Spoken answers (voice assessments)

For the “Voice Assessment” and “Test Your Understanding” activities, your device's speech recognition converts your spoken answer into text. That text transcript is sent to our server to be graded and to generate feedback. The App is designed to send the transcribed text rather than raw audio recordings.

d. Photos and images you submit

For the “Writing Assessment” and the answer‑upload feature, you may take a photo, choose an image from your gallery, or draw an answer on screen. The resulting image is uploaded to our server to be graded by AI and to generate a score and feedback. The QR scanner reads a code only to link your upload to the correct assignment; it does not scan or collect anything else.

e. AI tutor conversations

When you use “Ask AI,” the questions and messages you send are transmitted to our server (and the AI service that powers it) to generate a response. Your conversation for a topic may be stored so it can be shown to you again.

f. Device & technical information

To operate reliably, the App makes network requests to our server and processes limited technical information such as permission status. The App does not collect your location, and it does not contain third‑party advertising or advertising‑based tracking.

2. Device permissions and why we use them

The App requests only the permissions it needs for its learning features. You may grant or deny these; the related feature will not work without them.

PermissionWhy the App uses it
INTERNET To securely send and receive your lessons, progress, and assessment results to and from our server.
CAMERA To photograph your handwritten answers for the Writing Assessment, and to scan the QR code used for answer uploads.
RECORD_AUDIO (Microphone) To capture your spoken answers for the Voice and “Test Your Understanding” assessments, which your device converts to text.
Photos / media selection To let you choose an existing image of your work to upload. On modern Android this uses the system photo picker, so the App only receives the image you select.

3. How we use information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third‑party advertising.

4. How we share information

We share information only as needed to operate the service:

5. Data retention

We retain your account and learning records for as long as necessary to provide the service and to meet our legal and operational requirements. When information is no longer required, it is deleted or anonymised. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time — see Delete Your Account & Data.

6. Security

Access to the App requires authentication, and communication with our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Authentication tokens are stored in the device's secure storage, and a student is only shown their own data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security; users should keep their credentials confidential and use a secured device.

7. Students and minors

Darris AI is provided to students through their educational institution, and some students may be minors. Where the App is made available to a student, the institution is responsible for obtaining any consents required under applicable law (for example, from a parent or guardian), and we process student information on the institution's behalf for educational purposes. We do not use student data for advertising or to build advertising profiles. If you believe a minor has provided information without appropriate consent, contact us and we will address it.

8. Your rights and choices

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, and may raise concerns about our processing. To request deletion, follow the steps on our account deletion page, or contact us using the email below. Because your account may be managed by your school, we may coordinate with your institution to fulfil a request.

9. Third-party services

The App relies on our own backend server and its hosting infrastructure, and on AI/text‑to‑speech services used to grade answers and power the tutor. The App does not embed third‑party advertising or advertising‑analytics SDKs. Distribution is through the Google Play Store, whose own terms and privacy practices apply to the download and installation process.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated policy here and revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
